What I have to add…

Although my career has taken me all over the world, my birthplace has always been my home. This is where I live with my family, where I was an elected city councilor for 18 years, where I enjoy sports, and where I have enriching conversations with students at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as part of a course I teach. I have been an honorary professor there for almost 20 years, holding seminars on corporate management issues.

The theoretical foundation of my career was a study of law and economics, which I completed with a doctorate in law and a diploma in economics. With this knowledge and a great deal of curiosity and dedication, I joined Siemens. I was fascinated by the company’s constantly renewing innovative strength, its unique internationality, and — related to both — the encounters with interesting people at home and in many countries around the world.

In 1989, I was appointed to the Managing Board of Siemens AG and remained with the company for a total of 38 years, the last two as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
